What to Expect

Walking into an unfamiliar church can bring plenty of questions. What will the service be like? Will I know what to do? Will I be expected to introduce myself?

At Franklin United Methodist Church, you can participate at your own pace. You do not need to know our songs, traditions, or order of worship before you arrive. Come as you are, find a comfortable seat, and join us in whatever way feels natural to you.

A Warm Welcome

When you arrive, you can expect to be greeted by members of the Franklin family. We are always glad to welcome visitors, but we understand that everyone has a different comfort level.

You will not be asked to stand and introduce yourself to the congregation. We want you to feel welcomed without being put on the spot.

If you have questions or need help finding your way, please let someone know. We will be happy to assist you.

Our Worship Experience

Worship at Franklin is joyful, reverent, and rooted in the Christian faith. Our services combine prayer, Scripture, preaching, congregational participation, and music.

A typical Sunday may include:

  • Greetings and announcements

  • Praise and worship

  • Congregational hymns

  • Prayer

  • Music from the choir

  • Offering

  • Scripture readings

  • A hymn of preparation

  • The sermon

  • An invitation to Christian discipleship or altar prayer

  • The benediction

The pastor may occasionally invite members of the congregation to share a testimony during praise and worship. You are welcome to listen and participate only if you feel comfortable doing so.

Music and Praise

Music is an important part of worship at Franklin. Our services may include traditional hymns, gospel music, congregational singing, and selections from the choir.

You do not need to know every song. Lyrics or guidance may be provided, and you are welcome to sing, listen, reflect, or worship in the way that is most meaningful to you.

When Do We Stand?

The congregation is generally invited to stand during the offertory, Scripture readings, hymn of preparation, and benediction.

Please stand only as you are able. You are always welcome to remain seated for health, mobility, or personal reasons.

The Offering

An offering is received during worship as an opportunity for members and regular attendees to support the ministries and mission of Franklin United Methodist Church.

As our guest, please do not feel obligated to give. Your presence is a gift to us.

The Message

The sermon connects Scripture with faith, daily life, and our calling to love God and our neighbors.

You are welcome to bring a Bible, but you do not need one to participate. Space for sermon notes may also be provided in the worship bulletin.

Communion Sundays

Franklin ordinarily celebrates Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

All are welcome to receive communion.

Our worship leaders will provide instructions during the service so you will know when and how Communion is received.

Prayer and the Altar

Near the conclusion of worship, the pastor may offer an invitation to Christian discipleship or an opportunity for altar prayer.

You may come forward for prayer, remain at your seat, or spend the moment in quiet reflection. There is no pressure to respond publicly.

Children in Worship

Children are welcome to worship alongside their families. We understand that children may move, make noise, or need to step out during the service. Families should feel comfortable caring for their children as needed.

Franklin does not currently offer a nursery, childcare, or a separate children’s church during the 11:00 a.m. service.

Children’s Sunday school is offered at 10:00 a.m. on the third Sunday of each month.

After Worship

After the benediction, you are welcome to speak with the pastor, meet members of the congregation, ask questions, or simply head home.

If you would like to learn more about Franklin or become involved in the life of the church, we would be glad to help you take your next step.

There Is a Place for You Here

You do not need to understand every part of worship or have your faith completely figured out before visiting Franklin.

Bring your questions. Bring your family. Bring yourself.

We look forward to worshiping with you.
